While it is not unusual this time of year for cars to be burglarized, this year “smash and grabs” have reached an all-time high. Criminals are not being too particular about which cars they are burglarizing either. Whether your vehicle is 20 years old or brand new, all types of vehicles are broken into.
While the holidays are a busy time for collision and glass shops due to an increase in crash repairs, crews are working overtime to get smashed glass in windows fixed as soon as possible.

General Tips:
- Do not leave any valuables in plain sight.
- Remove or hide anything that might be mistaken as something worth stealing.
- If you must leave valuables in your vehicle, hide them out of sight before you get to where you will be parking.
- Audible alarms or other theft-deterrent devices can be highly effective.
- Never leave the remote control for your garage inside your parked vehicle.
- Take a moment to observe your surroundings when leaving and when returning to your car.
- If your car is parked in your driveway or a carport instead of the garage leave your exterior lights at night.
- Increase the visibility of parking spaces by trimming back trees and bushes, and installing motion-sensitive lighting.
